"Creating a Charming Micro Pond: A Journey Through Nature"

Ah, the blissful charm of a cottage garden, where the whispers of nature serenade us in the gentle sway of beautiful blooms and greenery. Recently, I embarked on a delightful project that aimed to bring a little slice of tranquility to my outdoor space—a micro pond, a serene water feature for our beloved garden friends.

Summer 2024

With a heart full of excitement, I set out to craft this quaint sanctuary. The well, lovingly constructed from rustic bricks, had an enchanting vintage appeal, though I knew it wasn't water-tight. Inside, an old wash basin dish which was used by the previous owner as a fire pit.

I loved the brick well and it's structure so I intended to use this already made structure for my pond feature. The old wash basin to cradle the shimmering water, while pond liner enveloped everything like a protective hug, creating a serene oasis amidst the garden.

Alas, despite my best intentions and careful preparations, the little pond began to leak. It was disheartening to watch my dreams of fostering a vibrant habitat for our feathered and furry friends slip away. As twilight crept in at 9 PM, I realized I hadn’t nourished myself all day amidst the frenzy of excitement and effort. With a heavy heart, I temporarily relocated my delicate water plants into a safe, hole-free bucket, allowing them to rest overnight.

The gentle cascade of disappointment washed over me, but nature reminds us of resilience. Tomorrow, with a fresh perspective, I’ll embrace the challenge once more. I’ll explore new options to create a snug haven for our garden creatures—perhaps using a stylish metal bowl or a quaint kitchen sink that fits harmoniously with the charm of the garden.

Digging a small hole to nestle a new water feature could be a delightful solution, though the rustic brick arrangement captured my heart. It feels like a cherished part of this magical space.

For now, I’ll let the water settle and see how much it recedes overnight. Tomorrow promises a new beginning to this venture filled with hope, beauty, and a touch of the unexpected. Here’s to creating a merry micro pond that glimmers in the sunlight, adorned with floral beauty and teeming with life—a true reflection of nature's gentle grace.

Warmly, Lindsay Blair
